Now with a table of contents

We've received a number of requests for a table of contents, which of course makes it much easier to find exactly what you're looking for. Originally, the thought was that we would add such a thing later in the process, because it will need to be regenerated every time the book is updated (twice, as you'll see). But what the heck. Here's a version of the book with a table of contents.

Actually, "Windows 8.1 Book" 0.21 includes two table of contents, a concise "Contents at a Glance" and a more detailed "Contents" that provides links to all of the headings in each chapter too.

Here's the plan. We won't update these contents sections for each update, but will instead do so each time a chapter hits the "first draft" phase. Putting out each update in multiple formats is kind of time consuming, and adding this task to the list is a bit much.

I've not yet tested this, but you should be able to use the links in both Contents section to jump quickly to the noted section. I used this with Paul Thurrott's Windows Phone 8 previously, and it worked in both PDF and MOBI formats (Kindle), as I recall. I will test it, of course, and have ordered a cheap NOOK device so I can test EPUB there as well. But I figured many would want to at least see what this looks like.

Feedback, as always, is appreciated. I should have the start of the next chapter posted by the end of the weekend.

Remember, you can download the latest version of the full book and various chapters in progress from the download page you have hopefully already bookmarked. If you haven't yet paid for the book, please get a copy of the book today.
